A San Francisco, known as ‘The City by the Bay’, packs a lot of fun.

View of Golden Gate Bridge from Baker Beach

As one of the most famous sights in all of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is an absolute must-see. There are a few good spots to view it from, but my personal favorite is Baker Beach. This is also a particularly good spot to buy a meal from a local market, lay down a blanket and enjoy a picnic in the view of the famous bridge. Visit the Musee Mecan ique

Fisherma’s Wharf (码头) is one of the most touristy areas of San Francisco and the overpriced, crowded sights can be tiring. But on Wharf 41, there"s a unique attraction: the Musee Mechanique. This museum has one of the largest collections of old indoors game machines in the world, which offers great amusements. Entry is free and it"s only a couple of quarters to play the games. Eat at Spark Social Food Trucks

With such a various population, it can be difficult to decide what cuisine to enjoy for dinner. Luckily at Spark Social Food Trucks in the Mission Bay, you can try a little bit of everything! Not only is the food delicious, but the food truck has a community feel with weekly events and free desserts. Have Tea at the Japanese Tea Garden

 D. Golden Gate Bridge. 23. What can we infer about the Japanese Tea Garden? A. Its tea is from Japan.

  B. It was built by Japanese. C. It is the best tea house.

  D. It is a quiet place. B Christina Horsten and Felix Zeltner tried not to panic when they were hit with a $400 rent increase on their Park Slope apartment in 2016, and realized they would have to move for the second time in two years. Instead of feeling intimidated by the unexpected event, they hit upon an unconventional idea: Why not move to a new neighborhood every month for a year? At first, things went remarkably well. They found their next apartment, a beautiful apartment in Chinatown. The next months brought stops in Staten Island and Harlem. As September approached, their next place to live proved difficult to find. When their Harlem lease (租约) ended, they took a road trip, then fell for a false advertisement in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, when an apartment they found advertised online wasn"t actually available to rent. And eventually they got their money back through Paypal. “That was rock bottom,” Ms. Horsten said. Over the rest of the year, they spent time in a townhouse in Mott Haven, as well

as apartments in Chelsea, the East Village, Hell’s Kitchen, and Williamsburg. “In the end, we were like, ‘Why should we even stop doing this?’ ”Ms. Horsten said. But then a lease takeover on Listings Project caught their attention: a two-bedroom apartment atop an Upper West Side townhouse. A second daughter, Lily, was born in January. And with a newborn, they have no intention of moving again anytime soon. Still, many aspects of their adventure have remained with them. “In the same way that we’ve tried to keep minimalism (极简主义) in our life, we try to stay in touch with all the people we’ve met,” Ms. Horsten said.“We realized it was a lifelong project to try to get to know NewYork City,” she added. But there is one member of the household eagerly waiting for a repeat: their 4-year-old daughter Emma.“ I think she loved it the most,” Ms. Horsten said.“At all the places we stayed, she found things I never noticed: children’s books, a dollhouse, a drum set. Even now, she’s like,‘When are we moving to a new home?’ And we’re like,‘We kind of like it here.’ ”

 24. What does the underlined word “intimidated” in Paragraph1 mean? A. Frightened.

  B. Surprised.

  C. Embarrassed.

  D. Confused. 25. While looking for a place to stay, where was the couple nearly cheated? A. In Chinatown.

  B. In Sunset Park.

  C. In Staten Island.

  D. In Harlem. 26. What’s the couple’s plan for next month? A. Buying a townhouse in Brooklyn.

  B. Staying in the apartment in the Upper West Side. C. Donating their daughter’s toys to those living nearby. D. Looking for a two-bedroom apartment for their newborn. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. East or west, home is best. B. Where to start, where to end. C. Wherever you are, there is home. D. Another month, another neighborhood. C

Do first impressions matter? A colleague thinks so. As each semester (学期) begins, he greets his students wearing a jacket and tie. “You make only one first impression,” he says. So while the rest of the semester he teaches class in his usual, more casual clothes, during the first week he presents a different image. Looking professional and trustworthy on the first day, he believes, will carry over through the rest of the semester, when he goes back to the work clothes until he meets new students. His thought is that students will remember their first meet positively and more willingly give him the benefit of the doubt as the semester goes on because they have been prepared to respect him through that pleasing first impression. The effect of first impressions is related to the halo effect (晕轮效应), by which the belief in positive qualities in one thing or part leads to the belief in

similar qualities in related things or in the whole. Here is an example: You meet a friendly person at a party and later are asked to get support from others for a worthy career. You contact that person because you think he or she will make a contribution. In reality, there is no inbuilt connection between being pleasant and being generous. Yet the halo effect leads you to believe that the two are related. Most conclude that if she was good in one kind(sociable), she will also be positive in another (generous). First impressions matter, for good and bad. They are fine when you like someone on first meeting; they are not so fine when the first meeting is unpleasant. Good first impressions lead to social connection; bad first impressions lead to social prejudice (偏见).

 28. How does the author’s colleague dress at the beginning of school year? A. Formally. B.Comfortably. C.Casually. D.Poorly. 29. What does the underlined phrase “give him the benefit of the doubt” in paragraph 4 mean? A. To charge him.

 B.To choose him.

  C.To believe him.

D.To blame him. 30. What can be known from paragraph 6? A. A kind person is usually generous. B. A good quality is not necessarily linked to another. C. An easygoing person always goes together with good luck. D. A professional image is helpful in getting support from others. 31. What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Love Me, Love My Dog

B.Students’ Pride and Prejudice C.The Power of First Impressions

D.Dressing Well Matters for Teachers D Now anyone can pretend to be Spider-Man by simply wearing a suit that lets you feel how close you are to a nearby object. It can even let the wearer control with their eyes closed.

The suit, called SpiderSense and built by Victor Mateevitsi of the University of Illinois inChicago, has small robotic arms with microphones that send out and pick upultrasonic reflections (超声波折射) from objects. When the ultrasound finds someone moving closer to the microphone, it “knows”. Seven arms are equipped across the suit to give the wearer as near to 360 degree ultrasound coverage as possible. “When someone is hitting Spider-Man, he feels it and can avoid it. Our suit is the same idea,” says Mateevitsi. “SpiderSense could help blind people find their way more easily.” Mateevitsi tested the suit out on students, getting them to stand outside on campus, eyes covered, and “feel” for attackers getting close. Each wearer had ninja(忍者) cardboard throwing stars to use whenever they sensed someone getting close. “Ninety five percent of the time they were able to sense someone coming near and throw the star at them,” says Mateevitsi.

“I’m very excited about this,” says Gershon Dublon of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who also works on other parts of the human body. “Mateevitsi’s work is a step on the road to giving humans truly integrated extrasensory perception (超感知). Mateevitsi wants to use the suit, or just a few sensors on the arms and back, to increase cyclists’ awareness of other traffic on the road. SpiderSense is due to be presented at an international conference in Germany this year. The team now plans to add more sensors to the suit to increase its resolution. The team also plans to begin experiments on SpiderSense with blind people. “We humans have the senses that we are born with and we can’t extend them,” Mateevitsi says. “But there are some threats which are very deadly, but we can’t sense them, like radiation(分辨率). Electronic sensors can feel those threats.” 32. How can SpiderSense help us in our daily life? A. Make 360 degree turns.

  B. Fight back when attacked. C. Warn its wearer of a coming danger.

  D. Send out and receive text messages. 33. What can we infer from Mateevsi’s test of SpiderSense? A. It is of great fun.

 B. It works well. C. It reacts to blind people.

 D. It is welcome on campus. 34. What can we learn about SpiderSense now? A. It helps cyclists on the road.

 B. It is still a Spider-Man idea. C. It is at the development stage.

  D. Its sensors send out radiation. 35. What type of text is this passage? A. A science report.

 B. A film review.

  C. A medical record

  D. A fairy tale. 第二节(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)

  根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

Reading is a valuable skill for children. It can help them learn and grow in many ways. But the love of reading can"t be forced. Pushing a child to learn before he is ready can make learning to read frustrating. As a parent helping your child to enjoy reading at young age is one of the most important things.

  36

By far the most effective way to encourage your child to love books and reading is to read aloud to him and the earlier you start, the better. Even a baby of a few months can see pictures, listen to your voice, and turn cardboard pages.

  37

The more excitement you show when you read a book, the more your child will enjoy it.

 38

At this stage, encourage him to read to you some of the time. Take turns reading with your child to model more advanced reading skills. This can help build your child"s confidence in his ability to read and help him enjoy learning new skills. Children who really enjoy learning are more likely to do well in school.

As your child begins elementary school, he will begin his formal reading education.

 39

Besides reading books in class, keep in mind that the school library is an excellent source for a wide variety of materials. Encourage your child to bring home books from the school library for pleasure as well as for his studies.

 40

You are your child’s first, and most important teacher. The encouragement and support you give your child as he learns to read will help him enjoy reading and learning even more. A. Reading a child book vividly can be fun for you, too. B. It’s well worth the investment of your time and energy. C. Most children learn to read without any major problems. D. Most of all, make sure you give your child lots of praise! E. Teachers use many methods to teach children how to read. F. And don’t stop reading aloud once your child learns to read. G. A few recent studies suggest that 52 new skills, such as photography, for even three months may strengthen the functioning of the brain in adults. It’s my great honor to be here and give a speech on saving food. Speaking of food, tons of cooked and served food ends up in trash cans every year. Wasting food means wasting resources like water, land and energy. Therefore, it will damage the environment in the long run. Realizing the severe consequences of wasting food, I’ve been doing my bit to save food. At the school cafeteria, I ask for half-size servings when I’m not hungry. When dining out in restaurants with family or friends, I propose ordering smaller portions and taking the leftovers home. Saving food benefits every one of us

Let’s clean our plates today so that we can have enough for tomorrow. That’s all. Thank you for listening
